ABOUT THE PRODUCER
The farmers of Kopakanya Cooperative grow their coffee on farms at altitudes ranging from 1600 to 1970 metres above sea level. These high altitudes are key to achieving optimal quality coffee beans, which are characterised by bright acidity and fruity notes. Baho Coffee, led by Emmanuel Rutasira, began working with Akagera in 2020. Before that, the station was owned by a cooperative of farmers who still continue to produce coffee under their own name thanks to an agreement with Baho Coffee.
Emmanuel Rutasira is committed to supporting farmers and improving their quality of life through better appreciation of their work and the provision of training. Baho Coffee also runs Farmer Field Schools (FFS) to help farmers learn new skills in soil conservation, water management and proper waste management. This ensures that farmers have access to the necessary knowledge and resources to sustainably produce high quality coffee.
